Statement on Student Protests

Our North Country interests are best served by focusing on higher education matters such as the budget deficit for our SUNY schools and local school districts, rather than jailing our college students. In a year in which we have a major party candidate and his comrades indicted in multiple jurisdictions, while he himself is on trial for criminal charges in our great state, New Yorkers should be encouraged to see young people engage in acts of political expression, debate, and activism.

-- NY-21 Democratic and Working Families Party Candidate Paula Collins’ statement on the topic of arrests and police involvement in university protests
